Cardinals' Patrick suffers displaced left kneecap during drills

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- Arizona Cardinals tight end Ben Patrick displaced his left kneecap during a Wednesday night practice, but coaches initially believed the injury would be much worse.

Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said the kneecap is back in place, but Patrick will be sidelined for "a few weeks." The coach said he expects Patrick to be ready to play when the regular season begins Sept. 12.

Patrick was hurt when he caught a short pass over the middle and was knocked down from behind by cornerback Greg Toler during an often-intense workout under the lights at a local high school. Patrick was helped off the field and later was seen limping along the sidelines, able to put some weight on the injured knee.

Whisenhunt said he doesn't expect to add a tight end to the roster during Patrick's absence.
