Cardinals place starting tackle Oliver Ross on injured reserve

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Arizona Cardinals placed starting right tackle Oliver Ross on injured reserved with a triceps injury on Monday, ending his season.

The team also placed wide receiver Ahmad Merritt on injured reserve with an ankle injury.

Ross, who signed a five-year contract with Arizona in 2005, was injured in the preseason opener at Oakland. He will be replaced by Levi Brown, the team's first-round draft pick in the 2007 NFL Draft.

Also Monday, the Cardinals released cornerback Travarous Bain, defensive tackle Ray Blagman, tight end John Bronson, guard Jon Hameister-Ries, wide receiver Greg Lee, safety Hanik Milligan, kicker Ricky Schmitt and wide receiver Todd Watkins.

The moves leave the Cardinals with 74 players on their roster, one below the limit that teams are required to reach on Tuesday.
