You may remember the time Hue Jackson made a pretty insane trade to land Carson Palmer.
The Raiders sent a first- and second-round pick to the Cincinnati Bengals to acquire the veteran quarterback in 2011. Two years later, the Raiders dealt Palmer and a seventh-round pick to the Cardinals for sixth- and seventh-round picks. That's called a low return on your investment.
"It ended abruptly," Palmer recalled Wednesday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. "They obviously wanted to go in a different direction and they expressed that to me when they wanted to, obviously, tear up my contract."
"I'm sure it's going to be a very electric atmosphere," he said. "It's special to play in front of those fans. There really is nothing like the Raider Nation. There is nothing like being a Raider."
"I don't have any hard feelings with them wanting to go in a different direction. I understand this business. ... I loved wearing that shield."
It's an easy outlook to have. Palmer escaped the eternally-rebuilding Raiders and got a fresh start with a talented and well-coached Cardinals team that's 15-6 since his arrival. The Raiders, meanwhile, hope they've finally -- finally -- found a long-term answer at quarterback in Derek Carr.
