The Ozzie Canseco of the Newton brothers is looking for work.
Cecil Newton -- older brother of Cam -- was released from the Green Bay Packers' practice squad Monday, the team announced. Newton, a guard/center, was signed earlier this month when Green Bay was hit with a rash of injuries along its offensive line.
After a successful career at Tennessee State, Newton went undrafted in 2009 before logging preseason work that year with the Jacksonville Jaguars and then with the New Orleans Saints this year. Cecil also was drafted this year by the Hartford Colonials of the United Football League.
Our (always) unsolicited advice for Cecil is to keep the faith ... and keep in shape. In a couple of years, Cam will rule the NFL with an iron fist. That type of clout undoubtedly will land his big brother a gig somewhere.
Never underestimate good ol' fashioned nepotism.
