When Chad Johnson got himself booted off the Miami Dolphins' roster last month, the wide receiver wasn't the only one bummed out about it.
Consider the good people behind HBO's "Hard Knocks," who lost their most recognizable and magnetic star when Joe Philbin summoned the veteran wideout to his leather furniture. Johnson was like a shiny Lamborghini producers got to play with for two weeks before the repo man took it away.
Breer: 'Hard Knocks' regrets?
In a wide-ranging notes column, Albert Breer talks to Miami coach Joe Philbin about his "Hard Knocks" experience. **More ...**
It was reported in several places Tuesday that Johnson will return in tonight's season finale of the popular reality show. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the episode will include an interview with the wideout, who remains a free agent more than three weeks after his release.
Though we look forward to seeing what Johnson is up to, it doesn't exactly fit the modus operandi of a show that's always focused on the present of the team it's documenting. Johnson is already ancient history in NFL terms, and there shouldn't be any shortage of topics to delve into -- David Garrard's release on Tuesday is just one notable example.
I guess HBO producers missed their Lamborghini. Check back in with Around The League late Tuesday, when I'll post the final "Hard Knocks" episode recap.
