Chargers inform Philip Rivers he won't be traded

The San Diego Chargers have made it clear publicly they had no desire to trade Philip Rivers, no matter what his contract status is. And the Chargers have now informed Rivers privately it's not going to happen.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports that the team has informed Rivers he won't be dealt, according to a Chargers source.

"He will be under center for us in 2015," the source told Rapoport.

Rapoport reported Tuesday that the Chargers were not going to trade him, and Rivers knows it now too. The two sides met to talk contract recently, and Rivers made it clear he is not going to sign an extension at this time.

This is the smart move for San Diego. They still have a top ten quarterback, and they should do everything possible to try to win a title in 2015. They can always use the franchise tag on Rivers in 2016 if he still doesn't want to sign long term.

The potential Rivers trade has been hanging over the Chargers for the last month. With the NFL Draft finally here, Chargers fans have one less thing to worry about.
