Texas was blown out by TCU, 31-9, on Friday in its season finale as rumors continue to swirl about Longhorns coach Charlie Strong's future.
UT never led in the game and failed to score a touchdown a week after it fell to Kansas for the first time since 1938. The Longhorns needed a win to gain bowl eligibility -- TCU became bowl eligible with its victory.
Strong has a record of 16-21 in three seasons at Texas, and said after Friday's game that he didn't know if he'd return as the Longhorns' head coach but told his players he plans to coach them in 2017, per OrangeBloods.com's Anwar Richardson.
When he was asked about his job status earlier this week, Strong said he didn't believe that a decision about his future had been made, citing assurances from the Texas administration that he would not be evaluated until the end of the regular season.
That time has arrived, and all eyes are on Texas president Greg Fenves and athletic director Mike Perrin. Strong said on Friday that he would probably meet with them on Saturday.
Strong's contract calls for a $10.7 million buyout, and UT would be on the hook for an additional $6.6 million to buy out the contracts of Strong's assistants, per FOX Sports, which reported earlier on Friday that there's still a chance Strong could return to UT for the 2017 season.
Expectations have always been high for Strong, given Texas' tradition. His hiring inspired hope of a quick turnaround, as he was coming off of a 12-1 season at Louisville before he arrived at UT. He has yet to lead the Longhorns to a winning season, though.
As for Texas players, star RB D'Onta Foreman surpassed the 2,000-yard mark on Friday, and said after the game that if Strong isn't back in '17, it will affect his decision on whether to apply for early eligibility into the 2017 draft or return to UT.
