With Doug Pederson taking over as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, the Kansas City Chiefs spent Monday deciding on a new play-caller.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Kansas City will make Brad Childress their new offense coordinator, according to a source.
Childress spent the past three seasons consulting as the team's spread-game coordinator after a five-year stint as coach of the Minnesota Vikings (2006-2010). He also served as coordinator for the Eagles (2003-2005) and Browns (2012) before latching on with Kansas City.
Childress brings a spotty reputation to the job, but his spread-game work for the Chiefs showed up all over the place in recent seasons, with Smith using the read-option to his advantage for an attack that meshed college and NFL looks.
It will be interesting to see if Childress is afforded play-calling capabilities after Pederson did none of that during his stint under head coach Andy Reid.
