EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- The NFL recently fined the New York Jets and former coach Eric Mangini $125,000 total for their failure to list Brett Favre on the injury report last season while the quarterback suffered from a torn biceps tendon in his throwing arm.
So what about the Minnesota Vikings, Favre's current team? Do they have to carefully consider putting Favre on the list each week, in light of his admission that he has a tear in his rotator cuff?
"You have to be transparent about it," Vikings coach Brad Childress said. "Everything that happens in the dark of night comes to the light of day."
Childress wasn't worried about having to change his approach to the injury report, but as he walked off the practice field Thursday, he did remind Favre that he'd rather save $25,000 -- the amount of Mangini's fine -- for his kids' college tuition than send it to the league.
"My exact words were, 'I don't have an extra $25K. If I need to list you on the injury report with every mucous membrane on your body, I will do that,'" Childress said.
