Super Bowl MVP Von Miller is ready to cash in as a free agent, with designs on becoming the NFL's highest-paid defensive player.
Asked on Thursday's edition of NFL Total Access if Miller deserves to surpass J.J. Watt and Ndamukong Suh atop the NFL's salary hierarchy, Denver Broncos cornerback Chris Harris, Jr. and linebacker Brandon Marshall left no room for doubt.
"Oh, easy," Harris exclaimed. "J.J. Watt doesn't have a ring. Von has a ring, and he's the (Super Bowl) MVP. The way he's been able to lead us with his rushing ability. I mean, he still has a lot left. He still has a lot of improvement to do to get better."
It's understandable that Harris would publicly support his teammate, but his reasoning is peculiar.
If Miller succeeds in becoming the league's richest defensive player, it will be due primarily to the steady rise of the salary cap and secondarily to the fact that Watt signed his 2014 extension before the other 31 teams had a chance to drive up the price on the open market.
Miller was an All-Pro-caliber player prior to his two-game stretch of extraordinary postseason dominance that led to a Super Bowl ring.
Watt is in a league of his own, however, with a chance to go down in history as the greatest defensive force ever to set foot on the gridiron.
