Chris Johnson wrote the names of the 26 victims of the Newtown, Conn., school shooting on his cleats, and then scored a 94-yard touchdown on "Monday Night Football." It was a cool moment, one even appreciated by some New York Jets fans.
The family of one of the victims, first-grader Grace McDonnell, saw the game and appreciated the gesture. A friend of the family reached out to the Tennessee Titans on Tuesday, and Johnson wound up speaking with McDonnell's brother.
"He said they were cheering on the Jets and they saw C.J.'s shoes and thought it was a special thing he did," Johnson's manager, Mike Mu, told The Tennessean. "He said they were cheering C.J. on during his 94-yard touchdown run and they were all excited and smiling when C.J. crossed the goal line because 'our family saw Grace crossing the end zone' before C.J."
Johnson, who is expected to remain in Tennessee next year, plans to send an autographed jersey to the family. Johnson became a father of twins earlier this year.
"I don't care who you are. Any time you have kids, you think about that situation," Johnson said. "It's really tough. It just shows you how blessed you are to see your kids every day."
