Chris Myers released after eight seasons with Texans

The Houston Texans have parted ways with a respected longtime veteran. No, not that one.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that the Texans have released center Chris Myers, according to a source informed of the move. The team later announced the move. Myers is a two-time Pro Bowl selection who started every game he appeared in for the Texans, covering eight seasons.

ProFootballTalk had the first report.

Myers, 33, had been due $6 million in the final season of his contract. He carried a $8 million salary-cap hit.

Myers can still play. He graded out on ProFootballFocus as the No. 3 run-blocking center in football last season. His pass-blocking abilities weren't nearly as strong -- he graded 33rd out of 41 qualifying players in that category.

Expect Myers to find a home with an offense that operates a zone-blocking scheme. One such team is the Denver Broncos, who are now led by former Texans coach Gary Kubiak.
