Clark: Ravens 'always the bridesmaid and never the bride'

Steelers safety Ryan Clark was painting with his 13-year-old daughter Sunday when his phone began to ring off the hook. Friends wanted to talk with him about the Ravens, who just saw their Super Bowl dreams detonated by a Billy Cundiff field-goal attempt that didn't go straight.

Clark got a good look at the Ravens during two losses this season and knew they had a strong team. Yet they still weren't good enough to make it to Lucas Oil Stadium and Super Bowl XLVI.

"I know it seems like for the Ravens right now always the bridesmaid and never a bride," Clark said Wednesday on KDKA-FM in Pittsburgh (via SportsRadioInterviews.com). "It just shows that no matter how good your team is from year to year, no matter how many future Hall of Famers you have, you have to perform every day and winning Super Bowls is hard."

The bridesmaid line is a stinger, but Clark didn't say it in a confrontational way. As someone who has won a Super Bowl (and lost one, too), he speaks from experience.

"You know, if I am not mistaken, the team with the most Super Bowls only has six and they have been playing football for 80 years," Clark said, referring to his Steelers. "So that tells you how hard it is to win Super Bowls and get to Super Bowls in this league and that's what that game showed."
