Cortland Finnegan's struggling season has come to an end.
The St. Louis Rams announced Saturday they've placed the cornerback on the injured reserve list. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch previously reported the move was due to Finnegan's eye injury.
The extent of Finnegan's eye injury was unknown when he was listed as doubtful to face the Chicago Bears on Sunday. It's now clear it was harsh enough to end the eight-year pro's season.
With the vacated roster spots, the team activated rookie safety T.J. McDonald from the IR-designated to return list.
McDonald won the starting safety gig earlier this season. The third-round draft pick started four games, recording 18 tackles and two passes defensed. McDonald suffered a broken leg in the Rams' Week 4 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
St. Louis also signed cornerback Quinton Pointer from the practice squad to the active roster.
