According to Jerry Jones, there's no finer option in the clutch than Tony Romo.
The Cowboys owner, holding firm to the company line, told KRLD-FM on Friday that he'd stick with his quarterback over Sunday's opponent, Giants star Eli Manning, not to mention Tom Brady, Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers.
"There's nobody I'd rather have than Romo," Jones said, via the New York Daily News.
Romo has performed admirably at moments this season, playing through the pain of a broken rib and shrugging off the right hand injury he suffered last week against the Eagles to prepare for Sunday night's NFC East title fight against the Giants. Guts aside, labeling Romo a clutch quarterback is sure to raise eyebrows.
The Cowboys have blown fourth-quarter leads in five of their seven losses this season. Not entirely Romo's doing -- he also has four game-winning drives -- but far from compelling evidence for his position among the NFL's comeback artists.
"We know that he's had really an outstanding year," Jones said, via The Dallas Morning News. "It just would be really not a very good thing not to get into the playoffs with the kind of year we're having with Romo and having his health. ... He has a very good team around him, so the stage is set to play well in a big game."
A big game that, indeed, could do more for Romo's uneven image as a clutch performer than just about anyone on the field.
