IRVING, Texas -- The Dallas Cowboys have released safety Michael Hamlin, creating a spot on their 53-man roster.
Hamlin, a fifth-round pick in 2009, played in six games last season and two games this season, almost always on special teams.
The roster spot could go to a fullback or a tight end.
Dallas' only fullback, Chris Gronkowski, missed Sunday's loss to Tennessee due to an injury, with backup tight end Scott Chandler filling in. Second-string tight end Martellus Bennett also is nursing an ankle injury.
