The Cowboys traded up with the Redskins to select Boise State defensive end Demarcus Lawrence with the No. 34 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

It's the fifth consecutive year a Boise State player has been drafted in the first or second round.

As NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported earlier in the day, Jerry Jones' club had been working the phones in the hours leading up to the second round. They ended up parting with the Nos. 47 and 78 overall picks to move up 13 spots.

One of the better edge rushers in this year's class, Lawrence is a speed-power prospect with plus size and athleticism. He can get to the quarterback, which is a priority after the Cowboys lost DeMarcus Ware and Jason Hatcher.

Having landed an NFL-ready pass rusher to help a defense that ranked last in yards per game and plays of 10-plus yards in 2013, Jones & Co. can now pack up their laptops for the evening.

The latest "Around The League Podcast" provides instant reaction to all the wild happenings in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
