Kansas City Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel believes in taking small steps.
His Thursday news conference opened on an odd note, with reporters asking why he removed a sign outside the locker room that read "Eliminate Bad Football" and replaced it with another preaching "Play Good Football."
"I thought that after we put that 'bad' football sign up, we didn't eliminate bad football," Crennel said of his 1-5 Chiefs, "so I thought maybe if I changed it and put up the sign that said 'play good football,' we might play some good football and put that in the forefront of their mind.
Locker-room signage is nothing new. Crennel said he uses it to generate positive thinking.
"You get a feeling about a sign or about a phrase that somebody has said something or something like that, you put the sign up," Crennel said. "It's a buzz point to get them thinking about things. Sometimes it's pictures, sometimes it's signs."
"How about a 'Win the Super Bowl' sign?" one reporter asked.
"We're not ready for that yet," Crennel said.
Maybe not, but it wouldn't be the worst idea to come out of Kansas City this season.
