Coach Romeo Crennel of the Cleveland Browns is the Motorola Coach of the Week for games played on Oct. 12-13.
Crennel led the Browns to a 35-14 win over the undefeated Super Bowl champion New York Giants. QB Derek Anderson threw for 310 yards and two touchdowns, hooking up with WR Braylon Edwards for 154 of those yards and one touchdown. RB Jamal Lewis rushed for 88 yards and a score. Cleveland's defense consistently pressured Giants QB Eli Manning, leading to three picks by CB Eric Wright, including a 94-yard interception return for a touchdown.
Crennel was selected as Motorola NFL Coach of the Week from among three finalists by voters on NFL.com. The other finalists were Jim Haslett of the St. Louis Rams and Gary Kubiak of the Houston Texans.
Head coach Jim Haslett led the St. Louis Rams to their first win of the season with a 19-17 win over the Washington Redskins. QB Marc Bulger threw for 136 yards, RB Steven Jackson rushed for 79 yards and rookie WR Donnie Avery made four receptions for 73 yards, including a 43-yard catch to set up the game-winning field goal. The defense caused the Redskins to turn over the ball for the first three times this season, including a forced fumble that was returned 75-yards for a touchdown by FS O.J. Atogwe. Kicker Josh Brown went 4-for-4, including a 49-yard field goal to win the game.
Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak led the Texans to a 29-28 victory over the Miami Dolphins for their first win of the season. QB Matt Schaub passed for 379 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 15 yards and a touchdown to help the offense gain a total of 485 yards. WR Andre Johnson had 10 receptions for 178 yards and one touchdown. DE Mario Williams led the Houston defense with two sacks, a forced fumble and four tackles. Kicker Kris Brown made all three of his field goals to help keep the Texans in it throughout the game.
