Damon lauds Brady: 'We'll never see anybody like him again'

Long before he ushered life into "Good Will Hunting," Matt Damon -- a legit Boston sports fan -- suffered through his share of disturbing Patriots football.

Blue-blood New Englanders remember the horrors of Rod Rust, and it's fueled Damon with a genuine appreciation of what quarterback Tom Brady means to the franchise.

"We'll never see anybody like him again," Damon said this week on "The Rich Eisen Podcast," amid a memorable riff on Brady's intensity. "It's so cool to be from a place where your quarterback wants the ball."

Damon first met Brady on the set of "Stuck on You," which featured the passer in a bit part. Damon ran into Brady again at a Patriots-Dolphins game in Miami, where an encounter between the quarterback and the actor's young nephew, Troy, left an impression.

"We went down to the sideline before the game, and I didn't think there was any chance that we were going to get to see Tom before the game because he's just locking in at that point," Damon said.

"He came running over, right before the kickoff -- my nephew was 9 at the time -- and he leaned down and looked at him and he said, 'You gonna be rooting for me today, Troy?' And Troy couldn't even -- he just nodded.

"And Tom leaned in and looked at him, and, I swear to God, it was like two 9-year-olds talking. Tom looked at him and goes, 'We're gonna kill these guys!' "

It's just a glimpse into an inspired Eisen-stirred stew that brought the fire from start to finish. Al Michaels, Rob Lowe and Mike Florio also hit the scene. Friends, drop what you're doing and make this part of your life.

The podcast airs Thursday at 2:30 p.m. ET. This week's episode is money in the bank, so be sure to download the entire episode or subscribe on iTunes.
