Danny Amendola (knee) returns to practice for Patriots

Danny Amendola returned to the practice field Wednesday.

The New England Patriots receiver worked out, per WEEI, after missing last week's loss to the Denver Broncos with a knee injury.

The wideout tested his knee last Saturday, but was ruled out and didn't travel with the Pats to Denver.

Amendola said Wednesday he didn't think the knee injury was serious when it happened in Week 11, but didn't want to play half-speed and risk further injury.

Participating Wednesday is a great sign Amendola will be able to return to the lineup. The Patriots pass-catching corps is in shambles after injuries to Julian Edelman (knee) and Dion Lewis (ACL). With Rob Gronkowski week-to-week with a knee injury, getting Amendola back would be a needed boon for Tom Brady.

Linebacker Dont'a Hightower, who left Sunday's game with an MCL sprain, was also seen at practice wearing a brace.
