New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair his torn anterior cruciate ligament this week. He's predicting big things once he returns to the field.
"Once I get back to 100 percent, to me there's no question I (will) be back to where I was," Revis said, via Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com.
"I'm sure it might raise people's eyebrows with how I'm going to look when I come back," he said. "I'm OK with that. I wouldn't expect anything less. I just know I work hard, and I'm going to treat it like any other offseason."
Of course, it won't be just any other offseason for Revis. The 27-year-old cornerback faces a difficult rehab process, which will be captured by documentary filmmakers. Beyond that, he'll be playing for a new contract in 2013.
Before the injury, Revis was a near lock to become the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL. Now he'll have to definitively prove he's still the same player he was -- no easy feat considering the circumstances.
Adrian Peterson and Jamaal Charles have shown it's possible to return at a high level after reconstructive knee surgery, but that's not typically the case. As Eric Berry is proving in Kansas City, these things can take time.
And time will not be on Revis' side if he wants to max out in free agency.
