The revelation might have come too late to save his job, but Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano said the team is considering using Darrelle Revis more in man-to-man coverage.
"We need to make sure we're accentuating our best players, putting them in the best position to make plays better than we have,'' Schiano said, per The Tampa Tribune. "That's something I've looked at hard, and I know our coaches have looked at it as well.''
It really shouldn't have taken months for a coach to realize he needs to accentuate his best defensive player's skills.
The insistence of using Revis in too much zone coverage has left fans, scouts and even Revis himself flabbergasted.
He didn't get the nickname "Revis Island" randomly.
There was talk that the Bucs didn't believe Revis' surgically repaired knee was healthy enough to play regularly on an island. Analysts and scouts repudiated that excuse almost immediately.
We should point out that Schiano's quote didn't say he would finally put Revis in more man-to-man coverage, just that he's looked "hard" at the possibility.
The answer shouldn't be this hard to find.
