Only hours after firing general manager Gene Smith following a 2-14 season, Jaguars owner Shad Khan interviewed Atlanta Falcons player personnel director Dave Caldwell for the vacancy Monday, according to Fox Sports insider and NFL Network contributor Jay Glazer.
Caldwell, who just wrapped up his first season as the Falcons' player personnel director, spent five years in Atlanta and also worked as a scout during a 10-year term with the Indianapolis Colts.
According to Glazer, Caldwell has received permission from the Falcons to interview with the New York Jets and San Diego Chargers for their GM vacancies. NFL.com's Albert Breer reported the Jaguars also have permission to speak with San Francisco 49ers director of player personnel Tom Gamble.
Khan fired Smith following the worst season in franchise history. Mike Mularkey told players he would remain the Jaguars' coach.
