New York Giants offensive tackle David Diehl was among a lengthy list of NFL players arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol this offseason. Diehl's initial court date was moved up a week, allowing him to report on time to Giants training camp.
On Friday, Diehl said that he's already met with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and does not expect to be suspended, Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reports.
A suspension for a first-time offender on a DUI charge would be a departure from how Goodell has handled these matters in the past. A more likely punishment for Diehl would be a fine of one or two game checks, which would cost Diehl $141,176, two-sevenths of his $1.2 million base salary for the 2012 season.
No action from the league office is expected until after the legal process runs its course. Diehl is due back in court on September 7, two days after the defending Super Bowl champions open the season against the Dallas Cowboys.
