DeAngelo Hall rebounded from a forgettable 2012 with a solid season. Now, the Washington Redskins plan to lock up the impending free agent.
Hall and the Redskins have started contract talks toward a multiyear extension, The Washington Post reported Sunday, per a source with knowledge of the situation.
The enigmatic cornerback was resurgent in 2013, scoring three defensive touchdowns in the team's first seven games. Aside from his playmaking prowess, he played well in coverage, usually assigned to the opponent's No. 1 wide receiver.
Around The League's own Chris Wesseling recognized the 30-year-old in his cornerback rankings in December, listing him under the "Solid Starters" section. However, the three-time Pro Bowl player was burned a fair share of times, as always.
Hall made $1 million in base salary in 2013, and with the Redskins thin at secondary, it's a wise move to keep him. (Josh Wilson struggled in 2013 and is set to be a free agent.)
It wouldn't be smart for general manager Bruce Allen to sign Hall to a multiyear deal, though. Hall was a flop with the Oakland Raiders after signing a long-term contract, and the 'Skins would be best served with the corner on an incentive-laden, two-year deal with team option for a third.
