CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme's strained right elbow forced him to miss practice Wednesday, leaving his status uncertain for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay.
Linebacker Dan Morgan (ankle) and guard Jeremy Bridges (toe) also sat out the workout.
Delhomme was injured when he was sacked by John Abraham late in the third quarter of Sunday's win over Atlanta. He played into the next series, when he winced in pain after throwing a short pass to Brad Hoover.
David Carr took over and led Carolina on two scoring drives to snap a tie. Carr, who was 3-of-4 for 56 yards, would start against the Buccaneers if Delhomme can't go.
An MRI on Monday showed no structural damage to Delhomme's elbow. But he did not dress for practice Wednesday and left during the workout to get treatment.
Delhomme said he still hopes to play Sunday.
"I haven't grabbed a ball and tried to throw it. That's when I can really tell you," Delhomme said. "I don't want to do that yet. I want to let things calm down.
"I did watch film yesterday, so it wasn't like I've already thrown in the towel."
Coach John Fox would not provide any further information on Delhomme's injury.
Morgan left the Falcons game in the first half with what was called a shoulder injury. After returning, he went out again with a leg injury and it was announced Monday he's suffering from tendinitis.
Bridges was one of three linemen with toe injuries. Defensive end Mike Rucker and tackle Travelle Wharton were limited in practice. Wharton said he was sure he would play against the Bucs.
Also Wednesday, the Panthers signed quarterback Quinton Porter to the practice squad and released running back Alex Haynes.
