DeMarco Murray reportedly out for Cowboys-Eagles

The 3-5 Dallas Cowboys are on the brink of elimination in the NFC playoff hunt.

Facing the equally lost three-win Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, the Cowboys might be asked to save their season without the help of their best running back.

ESPN's Ed Werder reported the Cowboys do not expect DeMarco Murray to play against the Eagles because of the sprained foot he suffered in Week 6. Murray hasn't practiced or played in a game since and has yet to be cleared by team doctors.

Murray's absence means another heavy dose of Felix Jones and Lance Dunbar against an Eagles defense that appears lost at sea.

The Cowboys have struggled to close drives and generate points inside the red zone. Murray was electric in a season-opening win over the New York Giants, a game that feels decades old here in November. The Cowboys miss their playmaker, but his return -- when and if it happens this season -- will come far too late.
