As one former Jets general manager liked to say, success has many fathers. It's a phrase we hear often enough, especially when it comes to the team's almost comical history with drafting quarterbacks.
Terry Bradway, the team's senior personnel executive, wanted to draft Russell Wilson badly back in 2012 but the team settled on wide receiver Stephen Hill in the second round. Wilson was drafted two picks before the Jets' third-round pick that year, linebacker Demario Davis.
And apparently, another Jets executive was crazy about Tom Brady back in 2000, the same year the team drafted Chad Pennington.
The New York Daily News names one scout in particular, Jesse Kaye, who was set on drafting Brady in the sixth round. The team instead went with defensive back Tony Scott.
The story does little else than prod Jets fans who have been waiting decades for the team to develop a franchise quarterback as they prepare to face off with Brady's New England Patriots on *Thursday Night Football*. Gang Green tried, and failed, with Mark Sanchez and appear to be heading in that direction with Geno Smith.
It might have been easier if they had Wilson on deck, ready to replace Brady whenever he chooses to retire.
