Dolphins activate RB Williams, waive Gado

MIAMI -- The Miami Dolphins activated running back Ricky Williams on Monday after welcoming the 2002 NFL rushing champion back from a 1½-year suspension.

To make room on the roster, the team waived running back Samkon Gado. The Dolphins claimed Gado off waivers from the Houston Texans in October.

Williams was reinstated by the NFL on Nov. 14. He began his comeback with the winless Dolphins last Monday with weightlifting and meetings with teammates. He participated in practices later in the week.

However, coach Cam Cameron kept a wait-and-see attitude about whether the running back would play at Pittsburgh on Monday night.

Williams has tested positive for marijuana at least four times since Miami acquired him in 2002. He rushed for 3,225 yards in the 2002-03 seasons after being traded to the Dolphins. He then retired in 2004, but returned to the Dolphins in 2005, when he ran for 743 yards.
