Dolphins WR Odell Beckham to begin season on PUP list, will miss at least first four games

Odell Beckham Jr.'s quiet, peculiar offseason will extend into September.

Beckham will remain on the physically unable to perform list to begin the regular season, meaning he will miss at least the first four games of the 2024 season, NFL Network Insiders Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport reported on Tuesday.

Beckham's stay on the PUP list is the result of an offseason procedure he underwent, of which the team was aware when they signed the 31-year-old receiver, per Pelissero. Beckham has worked consistently toward returning, but the Dolphins are choosing the cautious route by allowing Beckham another month to ease back into the swing of football things before expecting him to handle the rigors of the regular season.

Anytime Beckham chooses a team, it moves the needle. It's been the case since his trade to Cleveland, his subsequent move to the Rams, his 2022 season spent out of football (but not without flirtation with a few teams), and his decision to join Baltimore in 2023. His move to Miami was no different, but because he's been out of commission, his presence on the roster has equaled that of a ghost, at least when it comes to on-field activities. Beckham has not participated in Dolphins practice since camp began and spent each preseason game on the sideline, watching his teammates while the matter remained unaddressed otherwise.

Now, we have some clarity on the matter. All that's left is for Dolphins fans is to wait for Beckham to return, at which point we'll all learn whether he can play a part in Miami's explosive offense, or if his best days are truly behind him.
