Donald Driver might be odd man out in Green Bay

Aaron Rodgers deserves credit for his outrageous output last season, but so do his wideouts, perhaps the best collection of pass-catchers in football.

The Packers are so deep at receiver that Donald Driver might not have a place with the team come September, according to the the Green Bay Press Gazette.

Driver is 37 years old on a roster that includes a deep cast of younger wideouts led by Greg Jennings (28), Jordy Nelson (26), Randall Cobb (21) and James Jones (28). Jennings, Nelson and Jones all had more receptions than Driver's 37.

Cobb was less productive on that front (with 25 catches), but his speed and special-teams value make him a shoe-in for a spot on the roster. Tori Gurley and Diondre Borel loom as developmental players the team would like to keep around.

Two weeks ago, coach Mike McCarthy and general manager Ted Thompson declined to comment when asked if Driver would be at training camp. One major roadblock: the $4.8 million he's due this season, a figure set to be chopped heavily if he sticks.

It's hard to imagine the Packers minus Driver. He's been with the team since 1999, playing in 192 games during that span. The organization understands Driver remains an intensely popular figure in Green Bay, but as the team pieces together a roster geared on playoff revenge, it's no sure thing the veteran will be around for one more season.
