The Pittsburgh Steelers' receiver room got a makeover in 2019. Gone is Antonio Brown in a high-profile offseason trade.
One of the new wideouts brought in to help replace Brown's production believes the new group can collectively produce.
"As (receivers) coach (Darryl Drake) said, you're always going to be as strong as your weakest guy," Donte Moncrieftold the team's official website. "In our room we try to pick everybody up, make sure everybody's on the same page and make sure everybody's ready to go to play every position.
"If we can do that, our receivers room will be electric."
JuJu Smith-Schuster sits as the cream of the Steelers' receiver corps. Behind that sit a bevy of questions. James Washington struggled as a rookie but has received positive reviews during the offseason thus far. Ryan Switzer is a slot receiver with limited production. Eli Rogers has an injury history and is coming off a season with just 12 catches. Moncrief has the physical attributes to be a difference maker but has never been consistent.
The group will have to replace Brown's production, which over the past six seasons averaged out to 114 receptions for 1,524 yards and 11 TDs.
Moncrief believes collectively the Steelers can be an effective receiver corps even without a player like Brown.
"They're doing well," he said. "They're picking up the offense and they're learning defenses. You can tell they want to learn and they're coming out here working every day, that's all that matters.
"If you come out and work and do everything right, everything else will fall into to place."
