Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook returned to practice Saturday for the first time since having offseason ankle surgery.
While most of the attention was on newly signed quarterback Michael Vick, Westbrook lined up in the backfield with Philadelphia's first-team offense.
Eagles rookie running back LeSean McCoy, who had 55 yards on 10 carries in Thursday night's preseason-opening loss to the New England Patriots, was happy to see the veteran.
"It felt good to have (Westbrook) by me again," McCoy told the Eagles' Web site, "because lately it's just been coach (Andy Reid) telling me what to do and then I'll do it.
"I actually got to watch some plays today and see some different things that (Westbrook) does. It kind of made it easier for me."
Westbrook had surgery to remove scar tissue and bone fragments from his right ankle in June. He initially hurt the ankle last season during a Week 3 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Westbrook also had his left knee cleaned out shortly after the Eagles lost to the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC Championship Game last January. He experienced pain in the ankle while rehabilitating the knee.
