A win to open Big 12 play seemed to quiet the push to fire Texas head coach Mack Brown, but legendary Longhorns running back Earl Campbell is still calling for a change.

"Nobody likes to get fired or leave a job, but things happen," Campbell told KRIV-TV in Houston. "I'd go on record and say yes, I think it's time."
Campbell, who won Texas' first Heisman Trophy in 1977 after rushing for 1,860 yards and 18 touchdowns before starring in the NFL with the Houston Oilers, is still a presence around the program in Austin and even serves as a special assistant to the athletic department.
For his part, Brown handled the criticism with more class than Nebraska's Bo Pelini, who unloaded in response to unflattering remarks from famed Cornhuskers quarterback Tommie Frazier.
"Earl has done so much for Texas," Brown said Monday. "He will always be welcomed at our school. I'm disappointed in his comments, but he's entitled to his opinion."
Brown can change some opinions by thumping Iowa State this Thursday and upending Red River rival Oklahoma next weekend for the first time since 2009 to solidify Texas' standing as a real contender for a conference championship and BCS bowl.
