Eric Weddle to attend Chargers mandatory minicamp

Pro Bowl safety Eric Weddle is ending his offseason holdout.

The Chargers backstop will attend and participate in the team's mandatory minicamp this week, according to agent David Canter.

Weddle has stayed away from all offseason activities in hopes of signing a new deal with the team, but the Chargers made it clear this month that they will not hold contract talks until after the 2015 season, per NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.

After striking a five-year, $58.5 million extension with defensive end Corey Liuget, the Bolts now turn their attentions to a new contract for quarterback Philip Rivers. After serving at the team's Defensive Player of the Year in three of the past four seasons, Weddle is expected to test free agency in 2016, per Rapoport.

"We're disappointed and will continue to be disappointed," Canter told U-T San Diego earlier this month. "But Eric will go all out this season."

At age 30, he's no longer in the sweet spot of his career, but Weddle is sure to find work elsewhere if the Chargers don't change their minds between now and March.
