Johnny Knox isn't in line to be a starter for the Chicago Bears this season, but he has taken on a positive attitude.
Although the wideout finished with 960 receiving yards and five touchdowns in 2010, he currently sits behind both Devin Hester and recent addition Roy Williams on Chicago's depth chart. This led to rumors that Knox wanted a trade, which he quickly shot down as untrue.
Knox had one catch for 11 yards in the Bears' preseason opener and also busted a 70-yard kickoff return. The Abilene Christian product is in an underdog role, but that's nothing new to him.
"Pretty much my whole career, from Division II up to now. A lot of people didn't expect me to do what I'm doing now," Knox told the *Chicago Tribune* on Tuesday. "My whole life, I've been turning doubters into believers. So I've just go to keep making them believe."
Knox sees himself in an open competition and knows he must improve elements to his game. The Bears have been frustrated in the past by his route running, in particular.
"I'm a lot more confident going into this year," he said.
One role Knox doesn't have to fight for is return man on special teams. Danieal Manning signed with the Houston Texans in the offseason, paving the way for Knox to return kickoffs.
"That's why we don't have Danieal anymore," Bears special teams coach Dave Toub told the *Rockford Register Star* on Wednesday. "Johnny can certainly fill that role. He's a very good kick returner, as you saw (against the Bills)."
