NEW ORLEANS -- Getting a straight answer from Mike Tannenbaum can be difficult work.
Fired by the New York Jets as their general manager nearly a month ago, Tannenbaum was given ample opportunity to open up about his dismissal during a visit to Radio Row on Tuesday.
But Tannenbaum was careful -- even guarded -- in discussing the end of his time in Florham Park, N.J. Some takeaways:
» Tannenbaum was "disappointed" with team owner Woody Johnson's decision to fire him, but he wouldn't categorize himself as a scapegoat. "We won six games. At the end of the day, it wasn't good enough."
» On Tim Tebow: "Just one of those decisions that didn't work out. I know Tim gave us his best effort. we thought he'd be a guy to add to our offense, but it didn't work out that way."
»Mark Sanchez' 32-touchdown season in 2011 and winning history led to the decision to hand out last year's contract extension. "That's a decision right now that doesn't look very good," he acknowledged.
» Tannenbaum didn't believe the presence of Tebow negatively affected Sanchez. "I don't think so. I think Mark is a tough, resilient guy. We brought Tim in to add to our offense, to make it harder to defend. That was always our thought process with it."
» Tannenbaum confirmed the Jets never entertained trading Darrelle Revis during the season. He refused to speculate on how he would've handled Revis' contract situation. He still won't call the current Revis contract a "Band-Aid" deal.
» He called John Idzik, the Jets' new GM, to wish him luck.
» He didn't confirm it, but Tannenbaum appeared open to a job in the media. He didn't know if he'd get another GM job.
