Jeff Fisher wasn't hired to sit in his office and pout over the fate of his starting quarterback.
After meeting with reporters to confirm that Sam Bradford will miss the season after tearing his ACL for a second straight year, the St. Louis Rams coach pointed to backup Shaun Hill as the team's unquestioned Week 1 starter.
"We move forward as a football team," Fisher said. "Shaun's our guy. We've brought him here, he's got experience, we've got all the confidence in the world in him."
Fisher said the Rams won't rethink their offense with Hill, noting that the passer can "make every throw" and has a "great feel" for a scheme that Fisher said will roll as a run-first outfit "to start the season."
While backing Hill to the hilt, the coach shot down "speculation" that the front office has "been on the phone" shopping for quarterback depth, but provided a caveat, saying "that doesn't mean to say that we won't."
"It makes no sense to jump and react right now and try to fill the hole at whatever cost," Fisher said. "We're going to take our time and evaluate this. There's going to be some quarterbacks that are released and there may or may not be some quarterbacks that have trade value."
Fisher repeatedly expressed sympathy for Bradford and called his injury "devastating" to the team and the quarterback, but the Rams are less than two weeks away from the opener and have no choice but to move forward.
"This team," said Fisher, "is going to rally around Shaun, and we're going to go play."
