Jimmy Wilkerson has signed a one-year deal to join the New Orleans Saints, a league source said Tuesday.
The 29-year-old defensive end is coming off a breakthrough season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in which he established career highs in tackles (46), sacks (six) and forced fumbles (two).
The Saints will be Wilkerson's third team. He spent his first five seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs and played the last two years with the Bucs.
Wilkerson had hoped to land a lucrative long-term contract this offseason, but that was dashed when he tore an anterior cruciate ligament during a Week 16 game against the Saints.
Wilkerson also had recently met with the Seattle Seahawks.
