Derrick Morgan is hanging up his cleats after nine seasons with the Tennessee Titans.
The linebacker told ESPN's Turron Davenport he's retiring at the age of 30.
"My purpose in life is bigger than the game," Morgan said. "What football taught me was the power of influence. My goal is to create better and more meaningful opportunities for marginalized communities to break the cycles of generational poverty and build greater wealth and economic mobility. I feel a deep responsibility to leverage my platform for this."
The No. 16 overall pick in 2010 out of Georgia Tech, Morgan spent his entire career with the Titans, compiling 305 tackles, 44.5 sacks, 26 passes defended and five forced fumbles. His 44.5 sacks rank sixth all-time in the Titans/Oilers franchise history.
Morgan's best season came in 2016 when he registered 9 sacks and 56 QB pressures in 15 tilts.
The 30-year-old linebacker missed three games in 2018 due to shoulder and knee injuries. He was a free agent.
Morgan joins former teammate Brian Orakpo, who walked away in December, in retirement as the Titans overhauled their linebacker spot the past few seasons.
