Former UCLA coach Dorrell becomes Dolphins assistant

MIAMI -- Former UCLA head coach Karl Dorrell was hired Thursday by the Miami Dolphins to coach their wide receivers.

Dorrell was fired last month by UCLA, where he went 35-27 and led the Bruins to a bowl appearance in each of his five seasons. UCLA finished 6-7 this season.

Before joining the Bruins, Dorrell was wide receivers coach for the Denver Broncos in 2000-02. In Miami, he'll work under new head coach Tony Sparano, hired last week after the Dolphins endured a 1-15 season.
