Four Rams and five fines in one game reportedly equals $35K

Last Sunday, the Ramswere smashed by the Baltimore Ravens at home, 37-7. And if that wasn't bad enough, some St. Louis players reportedly had their wallets raided by the NFL for a lofty sum.

Four Rams -- wide receiver Danario Alexander, guard Jacob Bell, offensive tackle Jason Smith and cornerback Bradley Fletcher -- were slapped with five fines for a total of $35,000, according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

The fines were:

» Alexander: $5,000 for unnecessary roughness, roughing the kicker.

» Bell: $7,500 for an illegal chop block.

» Smith: $7,500 for unnecessary roughness, grabbing an opponent's facemask.

» Fletcher: two fines for $15,000 -- $7,500 for a late hit out of bounds and $7,500 for a horse-collar tackle.

Talk about adding insult to injury. That's a pretty good chunk of change. Between the four of them, we're talking about a teacher's annual salary.

And to think, Steven Jackson could be to blame.

The Post-Dispatch reported that the Rams' running back tried to rally his teammates with a speech during the first half, urging them not to back down from the Ravens' rough-and-tough style.

"Sometimes the only way to deal with a bully is you've got to try to hit 'em in the mouth," he said.

Jackson probably didn't mean literally ... or maybe he did?. Either way, that's evidently how the Rams took it, and they paid for it.
