Donovan McNabb's struggles were a focal point of Sunday's season-opening loss to the San Diego Chargers, but Minnesota Vikings coach Leslie Frazier isn't pinning his team's problems on his new quarterback.
Frazier said during his Monday news conference that the entire offense needs to improve after the Vikings fell to the Chargers, 24-17.
"There are some things that he'll definitely want to improve on, but if you look at the entire team, there are some things that we need to improve on as a team," Frazier said. "But he did some good things in that ballgame. He came out with good enthusiasm and did a good job of leading us early on to a score. There are some things we want to improve on as a team all the way around."
McNabb threw for just 39 yards on 15 passing attempts.
"I think probably the biggest thing for us was San Diego did a real good job of clamping down on certain things we wanted to be able to do," Frazier said. "What we have to be able to do when that happens is our playmakers end up having to make some plays even though you may be covered."
Tight end Visanthe Shiancoe said he wasn't worried about the current state of the Vikings' offense.
"It's going to take some time to jell," Shiancoe said. "Growing pains? You could call it that."
Shiancoe added: "The Chargers are a good team. We've got to give them props. All I can say is we're going to get to work, and this offense is going to improve."
