Frye wins toss, starts against Chiefs

CLEVELAND -- Charlie Frye's first victory of 2007 for the Cleveland Browns came off the field.

Frye won a coin toss against Derek Anderson and will start Saturday's exhibition opener against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Frye and Anderson are pitted in a tight competition to be Cleveland's No. 1 quarterback and start in the season opener on Sept. 9 against Pittsburgh.

Browns coach Romeo Crennel felt the fairest way to decide his preseason starter was to flip a coin, and the toss took place a few hours before kickoff.

Crennel also wanted to see how the winner reacted to the late news that he was starting.

The two QBs were expected to alternate series in the first half and both would see some time in the second half.

Crennel said that rookie Brady Quinn, who ended a lengthy contract holdout earlier this week by signing a $20.2 million deal, would only get a few late snaps.
