FSU's Golson doesn't make Peach Bowl trip, ending CFB career

The college career of Florida State quarterback Everett Golson has come to an end.

Golson, who transferred to FSU from Notre Dame before the season, has left the team, Seminoles head coach Jimbo Fisher told reporters on Saturday, per The Orlando Sentinel. He did not travel with the team to Atlanta, Ga., where FSU will play in the Peach Bowl vs. Houston on Dec. 31. An FSU spokesperson said Golson left the team due to a "personal issue," the Sentinel reported. FOX Sports' Bruce Feldman reported that Golson is coping with the loss of a family member.

Golson started the first seven games of the season before being benched in favor of Sean Maguire. The Seminoles went 6-1 with Golson as their starter, but the turnover issues that led to his benching at Notre Dame in 2014 once again flared up before Fisher handed the reins to Maguire. Golson started an eighth game before losing the starting job for good.

Golson was a graduate transfer for FSU after spending the first four years of his career at Notre Dame. He led the Fighting Irish to the BCS National Championship game during the 2012 season and missed the entire 2013 season while serving an academic suspension.
