Geno Smith will throw at combine; Matt Barkley, too?

Harrison: My All-Under-25 Team

Elliot Harrison fields a team with the top NFL players under age 25. There were some difficult decisions, starting at QB. **More ...**

Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III chose not to throw at the NFL Scouting Combine last year, because frankly, what was the point?

Both quarterbacks were locked into the top two slots of the draft. They preferred to throw to receivers they knew in a more comfortable environment. So that's what they did.

Don't expect a similar situation to play out with this year's (far less celebrated) quarterback class. Case in point:

It's also been reported that USC's Matt Barkley will throw. If the top quarterbacks in this class both go full workout, others at the position surely will follow.

Top talent in 2013 NFL Draft?

Could Luke Joeckel be the best football player in a tricky draft class? Bucky Brooks and Daniel Jeremiah talk it out. **More ...**

The decision makes sense for both players. Smith has a big arm and shouldn't have anything to hide. Barkley can use the event to convince teams of his arm strength and prove he's 100 percent healthy after a sprained shoulder prematurely ended his senior season.

Quarterbacks are using this combine to sell themselves as first-round talent. It makes sense they would take advantage of a full workout to state their case.
