Georgia coach Mark Richt confirmed what Bulldogs fans feared most Sunday, that running back Keith Marshall has been lost for the season to a torn ACL. The bad news didn't end there, however, as Richt also confirmed that wide receiver Justin Scott-Wesley is out for the year with the same injury.
The Marshall injury, sustained in the first quarter of UGA's overtime win over Tennessee, compounds problems in a suddenly thin offensive backfield at Georgia. Starter Todd Gurley missed the Tennessee game with an ankle sprain that may not respond well enough for him to play next weekend against Missouri. Richt called Gurley "50-50" to play against the Tigers.
Scott-Wesley is the latest injury at the receiver position for Georgia, which lost its best receiver for the year in the season opener when Malcolm Mitchell tore an ACL in the Clemson game. Receiver Michael Bennett needs a knee scope, and also will not play against Missouri.
Reserves J.J. Green and Brendan Douglas handled most of the rushing load for Georgia against the rival Volunteers, and the speedy Green responded with more than 100 yards.
Marshall and Gurley, both sophomores, are considered two of the nation's top prospects at the running back position. When Gurley returns to the lineup, however, he might be asked to carry the ball more than he is accustomed to, as Marshall has been an active backup for the last season and a half.
