Giants place WR Hixon on IR, re-sign Clayton

The New York Giants placed Domenik Hixon on injured reserve Friday and re-signed veteran wide receiver Michael Clayton to replace Hixon on the club's 53-man roster, according to the team's official website.

Hixon tore his right ACL for the second time in in the last two years when he made an acrobatic catch for a 22-yard touchdown during the Giants' 28-16 win over the St. Louis Rams on Monday night. The Giants originally said Hixon hurt his calf on the play, but on Wednesday the team announced he had in fact suffered an ACL tear.

For Clayton, Friday's signing marks the beginning of his second stint in New York. Clayton signed with the Giants on Nov. 24, 2010, and played in the final six games of the regular season. The eight-year veteran played in all four of the Giants' preseason games this year but did not make the team's final roster.

Clayton will be available to play in Sunday's tilt against the Philadelphia Eagles.
