Grant says secret to taking down Pack is 'us making mistakes'

The Packerswent down in defeat Sunday for the first time in 20 games, leading to speculation that the Chiefs enacted a game plan that served as Green Bay's version of Kryptonite.

Packers running back Ryan Grant has heard the talk, but he says not to read too much into it.

You look and people will say, 'Oh, the formula to beat the Packers and everything.' Yeah, it's us making mistakes. Plain and simple," Grant said Monday on WSSP-AM in Milwaukee. "Too many mental mistakes, too many balls on the ground, and it just seemed like the whole day we were just all waiting for someone to make that play, somebody else to step up as opposed to all of us stepping up."

Grant gave the Chiefs credit for their execution, but he cited physical and mental breakdowns as the real reason the Packers lost their chance at football immortality. He said it was strange feeling when the fourth quarter ended with Green Bay trailing.

"It definitely was (surreal)," Grant said. "I think even 'til this day all of us were like, 'Man, there's no more time on the clock.' That's how we felt."

If the Packers can keep Aaron Rodgers upright and healthy -- no certainty given the banged-up nature of their offensive line -- they should remain the favorites to hoist the Lombardi Trophy in February. Grant doesn't want people to over-analyze one loss, but that won't stop Green Bay's opponents from studying Sunday's game tape like it's the Zapruder film.
